3 Things I Always Prepare Before a Busy Workday

3 Things I Always Prepare Before a Busy Workday

Some days are just full. Back-to-back meetings, a long to-do list, decisions from the moment you sit down.

You can’t change that. But you can change how you arrive at those days.

Three things, done the night before, make the difference between a busy day that feels manageable and one that feels like it’s running you.

1. Know your one priority

Before you close your laptop tonight, answer one question: what is the single most important thing that needs to happen tomorrow?

Not your full task list. Not everything you’d like to do. Just the one thing that, if it gets done, makes tomorrow a success regardless of what else happens.

Write it down. Put it somewhere you’ll see it first — a Post-it on your laptop, the top of a notebook page, the first line in your planner.

Tomorrow morning, you won’t waste the first twenty minutes of your best energy deciding what to work on. You’ll already know.

2. Prepare what your body needs

On busy days, the basics are the first things to go. Lunch gets skipped. Water goes undrunk. By 3pm you’re running on coffee and cortisol.

Prepare one thing tonight that takes care of your body tomorrow:

A jar of overnight oats so breakfast is already done. A bottle of water in the fridge with a blueberry ice cube ready to drop in before you leave. A simple lunch packed so you don’t end up eating at your desk at 4pm or not at all.

It takes five minutes. It changes how the whole day feels from the inside.

3. Set yourself up to start

The hardest part of a busy day is often the beginning — that moment of sitting down and having to figure out where to even start.

Remove that friction tonight. Before you finish work, close all your browser tabs except the one you’ll need first tomorrow. Put your notebook open to a fresh page. Set your coffee mug out ready.

Small things. But tomorrow morning, when you sit down, everything will already be pointing in the right direction. You’ll just begin.

That’s it

One priority written down. One thing prepared for your body. One clear starting point.

Three things. Fifteen minutes tonight.

Busy days don’t have to feel chaotic. They just have to be prepared for.
