Blueberry Basil cubes

Blueberry Basil cubes

Sweet, herbal, and ready in 5 minutes

These blueberry basil cubes bring unexpected sophistication to your water, cocktails, or lemonade. The blueberries add natural sweetness and antioxidants, the basil brings an herbal, slightly peppery note.

What you need

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 handful fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Optional: a squeeze of lemon juice

How to make it

  1. Wash the blueberries and basil
  2. Blend blueberries, basil, and water until smooth
  3. Add lemon juice if using
  4. Pour into ice cube trays
  5. Freeze for at least 4 hours

Why this works

No cooking, no added sugar. The blueberries are naturally sweet and the basil adds complexity without being overwhelming. Drop a cube into sparkling water for a sophisticated drink, or add to gin cocktails for an herbal twist.

Practical tip: Start with less basil if you're not sure about the flavor - you can always add more. Frozen blueberries work just as well as fresh and are often more affordable. The combination tastes more sophisticated than you'd expect.
